Botanical illustration and plant-related image library for use in the IPPC website, using public domain images. A choice we should probably make is whether to cut out the backgrounds of the images so they seemingly float in white space, or keep the backgrounds along with original pencil annotations, paper creases, and so on, preserving the feel of the originals.

Work in progress - images are added regularly, with most recent at the bottom, and captions will be added soon.

If we want to use these as backgrounds for footers ↓ or headers we can choose which ones we like and then I’ll prepare them for use as enlarged backgrounds defined in the CSS, and will link them here, too. For example, Image 14 here is the background for the Countries page footer.

Images are 800px wide. To use in HTML markup, perhaps as visual comfort in a text-heavy site, it’s recommended to set only the width of the image in the HTML, to maximum of around 750px, so they look good in retina displays. Eg:

Footer images with erased background
